UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang's dream of establishing a Medical Education study program has finally come true. After a five-year process, the Ulul Albab campus finally received a Decree (SK) for the Medical Education Study Program from the Ministry of Research and Technology (Kemenristek) on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, in Jakarta.
The decree establishing the Medical Education study program was received by the rector of UIN Maliki Malang, Prof. Dr. H. Mudjia Rahardjo, M.Si., along with seven rectors from various universities in Indonesia. Following the decree, new student admissions for this major will begin in the 2016/2017 academic year.
The program's quota is 50 students. Although very limited, it is estimated that 3,000 applicants will be enrolled in this medical program. Complete facilities have been provided, including buildings, doctors, staff, hospitals, infrastructure, and an appropriate curriculum.
Prof. Mudji stated that the university's goal in establishing the Medical Education Department is to produce a generation of doctors with Ulul Albab character and who will benefit the community. "We provide a ma'had facility for all new medical students to gain religious knowledge, as a foundation for becoming doctors with noble morals and spiritual depth," explained the sociolinguist.
In accepting the decree, the Ministry of Research and Technology provided several messages for evaluation in establishing a medical department, including providing complete infrastructure, affordable fees, a good educational process, and providing qualified medical staff.
Following the completion of the medical study program, this green campus will also implement several other prospective programs, including the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, the Faculty of Engineering, and several other faculties. These programs are implemented to improve the university's quality as a World-Class University. (don)
