Bioinformatics is a branch of science that combines biology and informatics. This science manages information about DNA, proteins, various active substances, and the interactions of molecules within the body. It can be used in the healthcare field to predict how the body's systems respond to certain substances. As a result, researchers and doctors can administer appropriate treatments and minimize negative side effects.
This was stated by the professor of Brawijaya University, Prof. Widodo, when giving a guest lecture entitled "Application of Bioinformatics in Research on the Utilization of Natural Materials as Drug Candidates" which was held at the Faculty of Science and Technology building (01/04/2019) that "bioinformatics can be used as a tool to predict lab results, so that researchers can shorten the duration of research.".
According to Dr. Lailia Nur Rahma when giving introductory material during this guest lecture with the title "Potential of Terrein for Antibiotic Resistance Klepsiella pneumoniae” stated that terrein is a secondary metabolite of fungi Aspergillus terreus which has the potential to reduce antibiotic resistance Klepsiella pneumoniae, to predict this, it is necessary to carry out preliminary tests with in silico with the docking method.
Guest lectures featuring experts are regularly held by the Faculty of Medicine and Medicine, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The Head of the Medical Education Study Program at UIN Malang, Dr. Nurlaili Susanti, stated, "This guest lecture aims to provide sixth-semester students with insights into the research they will use for their final assignments.".
In this guest lecture, it is hoped that students will have new perspectives on the methods that will be used during research, not only in vitro, in vivo, but there are also methods in silico which uses databases and applications found in bioinformatics.(Sub)
