Pandan Tea, a Blood Sugar-Lowering Tea Created by UIN Malang Medical Students, Wins Gold Medal at International Event

Four 4 PSPD students from the 2020 intake won gold medals at the international competition held International Youth Science Association (IYSA). This competition was attended by 614 teams from 32 countries in the world. Faza Saiqur Rahmah, Chella Sonia, Vanda Rizky Rohmatulloh and Nisrina Shabry Habibie succeeded in winning Gold Medal in the category Life Science on International Science and Invention Fair (ISIF) 2022 through their research on pandan tea to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Contacted online (November 8), Faza, the team leader, stated that their motivation for participating in this competition was to prove and assess their own capabilities and better understand their respective strengths and weaknesses. During the process, Faza and the team divided up the journals for the competition and compiled them. timeline to be systematic in the work. Meanwhile, for the research process, the work is carried out in the PSPD FKIK laboratory State Islamic University of Malang. "The challenge we faced in this competition was gathering responses from respondents who would try our product. Our initial target was 100 people, but in the end, we only managed to get around 60," said Faza.

Faza and his colleagues began the lengthy process of ISIF 2022 by developing ideas related to crucial issues that needed to be formulated and needed at this time. After reaching an agreement, they began applying for research permits and immediately conducted laboratory research. In addition, they also tested their invention on humans to determine the product's suitability for consumption. After conducting a series of trials, the team presented their research to a panel of judges, earning a Gold Medal.

“"Of course, we are very grateful to Allah SWT and our parents, who always pray for our well-being. I am also very grateful to all the team members who have worked so well together," said Faza.
